In my 31 years I've frequently felt uncool and frumpy. I started this blog (and hosting WW) in the hopes of helping some of the busy people out there like me who might be looking for inspiration, but living real lives on a budget, by trying things and learning as much as I could.
Husband was taking pics for me yesterday and our neighbour came out to see what we were up too. When he asked what the blog was about I felt a little embarrased - but why should I? I recently read a great blog post about the example outfit posters are giving our children. What does it say if you are proud of your appearance, if you are confident, making an effort and having fun?
I was also reflecting on why I blog last week during our trip to Christchurch whilst sitting at the airport. Noticing all these very stylish travellers passing me, I mused as to what I thought I had to offer. But the devils advocate in me stuck up for the other 50% of the ladies there and for myself. This blog and WW is not about us shouting we have the answers. It's about shouting to the world 'Hey look at me - I'm trying things, having fun and being awesome... and you can be too'.
For some being in front of the camera is comfortable and for some it can be very scary - but I promise for those that take the leap and give this a try, like me, you will find a supportive audience just waiting to encourage your efforts.
Caption: please can you move aside so I can have these pics taken (for the 50 millionith time)!!!
As promised each Wednesday I'm going to pick one of you beautiful ladies from the previous week to feature. It's a great chance to put the spotlight on new and exciting blogs that we might not have seen before. This week's special feature (and the most clicked post from last week) is Stella from 'The Golden Adventures of a Very Dark Horse'. I love that she celebrates her beautiful curves, but also that Stella's fun nature comes through in her posts (check out her stunning pics).
This week I'm linking us up with the other Wednesday Linkups: Real Girl Style (Real Girl Glam), WIWW (Transatlantic Blonde), Whatever Whenever (Rolled Up Pretty), What I Wore (Pleated Poppy), I Feel Pretty (Get your Pretty on) and Style Sessions (Style Elixir)! Joining us with a wonderful big world...
How to play?
- Please link to a specific blog post not just your general blog.
- Link to a post about clothes - that's what we're here for.
- Please add a link back here so other people can come over and see people's clothing posts too - the old fashioned way or grab a button below.
- Be encouraging and visit people - leave a comment now and again too; everyone loves to get encouragement!

A great introduction to WW and such a positive way to express the idea. It's so important that we all feel comfortable in ourselves and are thereby strong role models for our children - who often feel immense pressure to for a certain look. If we're happy in ourselves - we can surely carry off anything! Positivity glows from within :-)
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous in your outfit, from head to toe - & my fav pic is actually the one with the 'caption' - I thought you were pointing out something in the garden!
Wonderful explanation why you do this.
ReplyDeleteAnd my kids always tend to need me when I'm doing stuff for the blog too! So glad I'm not the only one. I am tending on doing stuff while they are at school now though. Room to breath. My hubby doesn't take the photos. (He's not that good). Then again my photos are bad too. LOL
I love this! I feel it's something I think about lots too. Probably too much but I wouldn't be me if I didn't over think things at least sometimes. You look lovely in this outfit too, casual and easy but still with personality. Love the addition of the hat. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the ensemble and I agree it is our giving it a go that makes such a difference :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post -- love the way you've described WW. Happy to link up!

Great post and outfit, thanks!
ReplyDeletegreat intro to your reasoning for fashion blogging and wardrobe wednesday! love the jaunty hat! i post only self-taken outfit pics, for two main reasons - lack of tripod or photographer, and poor time management. i've definitely gotten over my embarrassment about having a blog, and love that i can go back to old posts and see how my style/attitude/tech skills have evovled
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit. And thank you for your encouragement!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly how I feel about my little blog! I'm nothing special, but I'm having fun! =) I love your black maxi. Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteLove this look! The hat, the maxi dress, the cardi...so cute all together!
ReplyDeleteLove this - your post and your outfit (I am slightly envious at how effortlessly you wear that hat!) are both perfect. Loved Stella's photos from last week too x
ReplyDeleteGreat post! My outfit posts have definitely help me come out of my shell and regain some confidence. And I think that it does help to instill in my daughter the importance of taking care of yourself and caring about how you look, not to please or impress the world, but for yourself.
ReplyDeleteVery classy outfit. I love your shoes. Thanks so much for hosting!!

Love your outfit! What a great way to inspire and celebrate women! Gotta love blogging! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I first starting posting outfit pics I felt so exposed. My outfits back then were less than creative. But it was a place to start. I can't believe how much more confident I've gotten and how much my style has evolved since then! I loved reading about your why. This maxi dress/cardi/hat combo is really great.
ReplyDeleteThat rust cardi is lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love that maxi!
ReplyDeleteI think everyone feels dorky for the first while when you start taking outfit photos. I still don't feel 100% in front of the camera.
bisous
Suzanne
You look great and the boy in the pic - all the better!
ReplyDeletePopped in from WIWW and linked up with you!

I still get embarrassed about telling people in real life that I blog. I guess I feel that people who aren't bloggers don't take blogging seriously, or really know what it's about/how creative a venture it can be. I feel like the non-blogger population still views blogging as a teenage Live Journal, you know?
ReplyDeleteAll that aside, I think you look fabulous in these pictures. That maxi with that hat and that cardigan = perfection. I want to steal that outfit. ;)
You know, sometimes I start feeling the same way...like "why do I think I'm so special that I should have a style blog- there are tons of girls who dress better than me out there." But what you wrote is absolutely true - we're doing it for ourselves and to show that we're trying new things and having fun. I really needed to read that. Thanks for writing such an honest and inspiring post :)
